Destination: Mu Cang Chai
The northwest is one of Vietnam’s most beautiful regions, with breathtaking mountain scenery and terraced fields. The Northwest has a different charm for each season. And here, there is a period called the “golden period” when all the rice terraces are dyed yellow during the rice harvesting season. Visiting the Northwest at this time of year can be an experience of a lifetime.
A local farmer a year will grow only one crop. Therefore, the harvest season is from mid-September to late October. Harvesting times differ from province to province, with Sapa and Quan Ba being the earliest and Mu Cang Chai being the latest. Along with the beautiful cool weather, the breathtaking and stunning scenery will amaze your mind.
Even if you already seen this scenery on photos somewhere, you’d still be surprised to see it with your own eyes. The vast terraced fields that spread out in the mountains are dyed in a fantastic yellow, as if looking like someone inlay gold on the ladder to haven. Thousands of endless golden waves stretch from valleys to mountainsides to high peaks. Colors vary from green, light yellow, sun yellow to brown gold. Looking at the terrace from the top of the mountain, you can feel the majestic beauty of nature and imagine the wonderful scenery of the yellow “sea” and the scattered ethnic minority houses on stilts.
Metta Voyage guide will meet you at the meeting point then head out on our journey.
We will stop at a restaurant on the way to have lunch.
After lunch, continue our journey to visit Suoi Giang tourist area, where you can admire the ancient tea hills that are hundreds of years old, enjoy the specialty of snow tea, and take photos on the picturesque tea hills.
After visiting Suoi Giang, transfer to conquer Khau Pha Pass, which is one of the four great mountain passes in the Northwest region, to reach Mu Cang Chai. When you reach the top of the pass, you will have a panoramic view of the Lim Mong valley, where you can admire the terraced rice fields and the beautiful scenery of clouds and smoke.
At the end of day, we will take you to Mu Cang Chai Ecolodge to check in and relax. Dinner will be served at the hotel restaurant.
You will have breakfast at Mu Cang Chai Ecolodge. Then we’ll take you to Ba Nha Bridge where you can rent a motorbike taxi driven by local Hmong people or hike to get to the stunning Mam Xoi terraced rice fields, the symbol of Mu Cang Chai and a special national heritage site. Then move to Ngoc Chien village, which is inhabited by Thai people, next to a picturesque river, to enjoy a lunch with local specialties. After resting, you can take a dip in a natural hot spring with 100% natural mineral water that is exploited by local people (the cost of bathing in the hot spring is not included). Return to Mu Cang Chai to sit and admire the vast golden rice fields from above or take a walk and cross streams around the village.
While admiring the terraced rice fields and enjoying breakfast at Mu Cang Chai Ecolodge, you can visit the Mu Cang Chai market to buy local specialties as souvenirs.
After saying goodbye to Mu Cang Chai town, the car will take you back to Hanoi, with stops at beautiful spots for photo opportunities that you might have missed before.
You will have a stop at Tu Le, a famous land of soft and fragrant glutinous rice and the charming Thai girls who have stolen countless hearts of young men. The guide will take you to visit and shop, especially for the soft and tasty green glutinous rice cake of Tu Le at the Tu Le market. You can also take photos with the symbol of Mu Cang Chai district.
