The northwest is one of Vietnam’s most beautiful regions, with breathtaking mountain scenery and terraced fields. The Northwest has a different charm for each season. And here, there is a period called the “golden period” when all the rice terraces are dyed yellow during the rice harvesting season. Visiting the Northwest at this time of year can be an experience of a lifetime.
A local farmer a year will grow only one crop. Therefore, the harvest season is from mid-September to late October. Harvesting times differ from province to province, with Sapa and Quan Ba being the earliest and Mu Cang Chai being the latest. Along with the beautiful cool weather, the breathtaking and stunning scenery will amaze your mind.
Even if you already seen this scenery on photos somewhere, you’d still be surprised to see it with your own eyes. The vast terraced fields that spread out in the mountains are dyed in a fantastic yellow, as if looking like someone inlay gold on the ladder to haven. Thousands of endless golden waves stretch from valleys to mountainsides to high peaks. Colors vary from green, light yellow, sun yellow to brown gold. Looking at the terrace from the top of the mountain, you can feel the majestic beauty of nature and imagine the wonderful scenery of the yellow “sea” and the scattered ethnic minority houses on stilts.
Hiking, especially in the Northwest, is great at this time of year. It is an interesting experience to stroll through the magnificent golden rice terraces, breathe in the wonderful aroma of ripe rice and observe the local tribesmen harvesting the rice. The ideal places to watch the harvest season in the northwest are Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Moc Chau (Son La Province).

Afternoon, you will visit the Museum of Ethnology and then drive back to central Hanoi for a 45-min cyclo tour through the famed Old Quarter known for its ‘36 streets of 36. Conclude the day by watching an entertaining water puppet performance, a uniquely northern Vietnamese art form said to have originated in the flooded rice fields of the Red River Delta. 6:00 Our guide & driver pickup at your hotel then transfer to Hoang Su Phi, lunch on route. After lunch we start exploring the best place of the rice field in terrace in Hoang Su Phi, wich were recognised as a national heritage site in September 2012. The filed are estimated to have been cut into the mountainside around 300 years ago by the La Chi, Dao and Nung ethnic group
The field spread all over the valley from low to high to create a brilliant yellow circle. Such as in the afternoon sunlight, everything seemed to be dyed warm yellow. The boundary of the field as the curves of winding, carrying on the dust is heavy cotton. More colors for the picture there are chocolate chipmunk girl in red dress is bending to reap.
Visit terraced fields also learn about the culture of wet rice making on terraced fields of the Mong and Nung ethnic groups.

Crossing the winding path leading to the village of Suôi Thâu, you will see a vast plain covering hundreds of hectares at an altitude of 1,200 m above sea level. The steppe of Suôi Thâu does not extend so indefinitely than those in Europe but it is enough to make visitors feel extremely small. Nevertheless, in the plain you will not find much grass but rather fields of rice and corn. The strips of rice, corn and grass blend together like a strip of multicolored brocade.
After admiring the breathtaking scenery in Suoi Thau we continue to move to Sapa, stop on the way to see the stunning beautiful valley and mountain. Before arrive Sapa a must see destination of your journey to Vietnam especially in the yellow season.
