Private tour with your own English-speaking guide · 16 days / 15 nights · Bangkok – Maeklong – Damnoen Saduak – Kanchanaburi – Erawan – Ayutthaya – Sukhothai – Lampang – Chiang Rai – Golden Triangle – Chiang Mai – Doi Inthanon – Mae Kampong – Koh Lanta
This amazing Thailand private tour follows the road north the slow, scenic way. After Bangkok's palace, Chinatown and canals, you visit the railway market at Maeklong and the floating market at Damnoen Saduak, ride the Death Railway in Kanchanaburi and swim at Erawan Falls. Then you tour Ayutthaya by tuk-tuk and continue to Sukhothai, where you explore the ruins of the first Thai kingdom by bicycle.
In Lampang you see one of the finest Lanna temples in the country and ride a horse-drawn carriage through town. Chiang Rai brings its White, Blue and Black temples and a boat on the Mekong at the Golden Triangle. In Chiang Mai, you walk the old city, hike to a hidden waterfall on Doi Inthanon and spend a day in Mae Kampong, a mountain village known for its tea and coffee.
Finally you fly to Krabi and cross to Koh Lanta for three free days on long, quiet beaches before flying home.
Moderate. There are several full road days in central and northern Thailand, an easy bike ride in Sukhothai and a two to three hour forest hike on Doi Inthanon. Good for active couples, fit older travelers and families with children over 10. Walks can be shortened on request.
Comfortable 4-star hotels: Nouvo City Hotel in Bangkok, U Inchantree Kanchanaburi, Kantary Hotel Ayutthaya, Sukhothai Heritage Resort, Baan Suchadaa in Lampang, Grand Vista in Chiang Rai, Bodhi Serene in Chiang Mai and Phra Nang Lanta on Koh Lanta, or similar. Upgrades to 5-star hotels are available on request.
November to March is the best time for this route, with dry weather across the north and calm, clear seas on the Andaman coast. April and May are very hot, and late March to April can bring haze in the north. From May to October Koh Lanta is wet and many small resorts close, so we suggest Koh Samui as the beach in those months.
Your guide and driver are yours alone for the whole trip, so the pace, the stops and the start time each morning follow you. The standard version has an English-speaking guide; guides who speak French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese or Vietnamese can be arranged on request.
