Private tour with your own English-speaking guide · 13 days / 12 nights · Chiang Mai – Doi Suthep – Chiang Rai – Golden Triangle – Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Caves – Kuang Si Falls – Siem Reap – Angkor – Koh Ker – Beng Mealea – Tonle Sap

This Thailand, Laos and Cambodia tour links three very different sides of the Mekong region. You begin in northern Thailand, where Chiang Mai's temples, craft villages and river life lead on to Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle.

A flight takes you to Luang Prabang for four nights of gilded temples, dawn alms, a boat to the Pak Ou Caves and a swim at Kuang Si Falls. You then fly to Siem Reap for Angkor Wat at sunrise, the Bayon and Ta Prohm, a night near the forest capital of Koh Ker and a final morning on Tonle Sap Lake.

It is a private trip with hotels at 4-star level and a boutique stay in Luang Prabang. The pace is comfortable for couples, older travelers and families with children over 10, and you can add a beach or Bangkok at either end.

Who this trip suits

Easy to moderate. Road transfers in northern Thailand take about three hours, and you take two short regional flights. Luang Prabang is gentle; Angkor days mean two to three hours of walking on uneven stone and some steep steps. Suitable for couples, active older travelers and families with children over 10.

Where you stay

Two nights at Eurasia Chiang Mai (Cottage room) and two nights at SANN Hotel Chiang Rai (Superior room), four nights at Satri House (Deluxe room) in Luang Prabang, then three nights at Saem Siem Reap (Deluxe room) and one night at Koh Ker Temples Garden, or similar.

Best time to go

November to February is the best time for all three countries, with dry, sunny days and cool mornings. March to May is hot and northern Thailand can be hazy. June to October brings green rice fields, full waterfalls and afternoon showers, with fewer visitors.

Your guide, your language

Your guide and driver are yours alone for the whole trip, so the pace, the stops and the start time each morning follow you. The standard version has an English-speaking guide; guides who speak French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese or Vietnamese can be arranged on request (subject to availability).
