Private tour with your own English-speaking guide · 14 days / 13 nights · Phnom Penh – Kampong Cham – Kampong Thom – Siem Reap – Battambang – Phnom Penh – Sihanoukville – Koh Kong
This Cambodia culture and nature tour gives you two very different halves. The first eight days are rich with history: Phnom Penh's Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, a motorbike ride through villages near Kampong Cham, the 7th-century brick temples of Sambor Prei Kuk, and three days in Siem Reap for Angkor, Banteay Srei, Roluos and the stilted village of Kampong Phluk.
From Siem Reap you drive to laid-back Battambang for colonial streets, hilltop caves and a ride on the bamboo train, then return to Phnom Penh by way of the floating village at Kampong Luong. The second half slows right down, with two nights by the sea near Sihanoukville and three in a floating tent on a river in Koh Kong, at the edge of the Cardamom Mountains.
Your private guide is with you on every sightseeing day; on the coast you have a private driver and time to yourself. It works well for families with teenagers and couples who like a mix of discovery and rest.
Easy to moderate. The first week has full sightseeing days with some temple walking and two short motorbike rides as a passenger, which can be swapped for a car. Later days are relaxed. The final drive from Koh Kong to Phnom Penh takes about six hours. Suits families with children over 10 and active older travelers.
4-star and best-available hotels: Anik Palace in Phnom Penh, Glorious Hotel in Kampong Thom, Saem Siem Reap, Battambang Resort, Sokha Beach in Sihanoukville and a floating tent at Canvas and Orchids Retreat in Koh Kong, or similar.
November to April is best, with dry weather for touring and calm seas on the coast. Koh Kong is one of the wettest parts of the country from June to October, when the rivers run high and some activities depend on the weather. Kampong Phluk's stilts are most dramatic from March to July, while the flooded forest is lush from August to January.
Your guide and driver are yours alone for the whole trip, so the pace, the stops and the start time each morning follow you. The standard version has an English-speaking guide; guides who speak French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese or Vietnamese can be arranged on request.
