Quick answer

Most visitors need a visa for Cambodia. You can buy the official tourist e-visa online at evisa.gov.kh (US$30 since January 2025, a 30-day stay, valid for three months, about three working days to process) or get a visa on arrival at Cambodia’s international airports and land borders. If you fly in, also fill in the free e-Arrival card at arrival.gov.kh within seven days before you land.

One trap for Vietnam–Cambodia trips: the e-visa is not accepted for entry at the Mekong river crossing (Kaam Samnor, opposite Vinh Xuong near Chau Doc) or for cruise-ship arrivals. If you arrive by boat, use a visa on arrival or a visa from a Cambodian embassy.

This guide covers the tourist visa rules for Cambodia as they stand on 26 October 2026, from Cambodian government sources and the UK Foreign Office. We plan private tours of Cambodia, usually combined with Vietnam and Laos, so we see which border points trip travellers up. Rules change, so check the official sites below before you travel.

Do you need a visa for Cambodia?

Yes, unless you hold an ordinary passport from one of the countries Cambodia exempts. According to the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs list dated 25 September 2026, citizens of Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam can stay 30 days without a visa, and citizens of Brunei, Myanmar and Thailand 14 days. Travellers from the UK, the USA, Australia, Canada and Europe need a visa.

Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the day you arrive and be undamaged. Since 3 October 2026 Cambodia no longer puts visa stickers in passports: every visa, whether bought online, at an embassy or on arrival, is issued digitally.

How to apply for the Cambodia e-visa

  1. Go to the official site, evisa.gov.kh, or the official e-visa app. Ignore look-alike agency sites that charge more.
  2. Choose the tourist visa (type T) and upload your passport details and a recent photo.
  3. Pay US$30 by card. Apply at least four days before you travel; processing normally takes three working days.
  4. Save the approval. The visa is valid for three months from issue and allows one entry and a 30-day stay.
  5. Check that your entry point accepts the e-visa (table below). If it does not, you will need a visa on arrival instead.

Where the e-visa works, and where it does not

This is the detail that matters most on a multi-country trip. The current entry-point table published by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists these crossings:

Cambodian e-visa entry points (source: Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, checked 26 October 2026)
Entry point Route e-visa accepted for entry?
Techo International Airport (KTI), Phnom Penh Flights; replaced the old Phnom Penh airport on 9 September 2025 Yes
Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) Flights to Angkor Yes
Sihanoukville International Airport Flights to the coast Yes
Bavet (opposite Moc Bai, Vietnam) Road from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh Yes
Kaam Samnor (opposite Vinh Xuong, Vietnam) Mekong speedboats and river cruises from Chau Doc No – use a visa on arrival or embassy visa
Phnom Den (opposite Tinh Bien) and Prek Chak (opposite Ha Tien) Southern road crossings No
Trapaing Kreal (Laos border) Road from southern Laos Yes
Poipet and Cham Yeam (Thai border) Road from Thailand All Thailand–Cambodia land crossings are suspended (October 2026)

You can leave Cambodia through any official checkpoint whatever visa you hold. Note that an older 2018 version of the same table, still online, lists Phnom Den and Prek Chak as e-visa ports; we follow the current table.

The e-Arrival card

If you arrive by air at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, Cambodia asks you to complete a free online e-Arrival card at arrival.gov.kh (or its app) within seven days before arrival. It is not a visa. Whether the card is required at land and river borders has not been clearly published, so if you cross overland, ask your guide or check the site a few days before.

Combining Cambodia with Vietnam and Laos

  • Vietnam: British citizens and many Europeans can stay 45 days without a visa; others use Vietnam’s official e-visa (up to 90 days). If your route leaves Vietnam and comes back, apply for a multiple-entry e-visa and list every gate you will use. See our Vietnam e-visa guide.
  • Laos: the Lao e-visa works at only nine entry points, none of them on the Vietnam or Cambodia land borders. See our Laos e-visa guide.
  • Thailand: all land crossings with Cambodia are suspended, so fly between Bangkok and Siem Reap or Phnom Penh.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Cambodia e-visa in 2026?

The tourist e-visa costs US$30 in total, including the processing charge, since 1 January 2025. Before that it was US$36. Pay only on the official site, evisa.gov.kh.

Can I get a visa on arrival in Cambodia?

Yes. Cambodia’s foreign ministry says visa on arrival remains available at all international airports and land border checkpoints. Bring a passport photo and US dollars in cash. Thailand–Cambodia land crossings are currently closed.

Can I use the Cambodia e-visa on a Mekong river cruise?

Not for entry. The river border at Kaam Samnor does not accept the e-visa, and the ministry says online e-visas are not valid for cruise-ship arrivals. Use a visa on arrival or an embassy visa; your cruise line will confirm how it handles visas on board.

Is the e-Arrival card the same as a visa?

No. The e-Arrival card is a free arrival form for air travellers, completed within seven days before you land. You still need a visa unless your nationality is exempt.

How long can I stay in Cambodia on a tourist visa?

Thirty days from the day you enter. The tourist visa can be extended once inside Cambodia through the immigration department.
