Private tour with your own English-speaking guide · 11 days / 10 nights · Bangkok – Chiang Rai – Golden Triangle – Chiang Mai – Phuket

This romantic Thailand honeymoon tour begins with a moment few visitors ever see. On your first morning in Bangkok, you make a traditional offering to Buddhist monks at Wat Ratchabophit, a quiet royal temple, and receive their blessing for a happy married life. Then you visit the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha and share a Thai set lunch in a garden restaurant.

From the capital you fly north. In Chiang Rai you stand where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet at the Golden Triangle, and visit the striking White and Blue Temples. In Chiang Mai you cook a Northern Thai lunch with a family in the countryside, climb to Doi Suthep and watch artisans paint paper parasols in Bo Sang.

The last three nights are on Phuket, with time to do nothing at all. Your guide and car are private throughout, and the pace leaves room for long breakfasts and lazy afternoons.

Who this trip suits

Easy. Most days include a few hours of sightseeing with free time in the morning or afternoon. The longest drive is about three hours, from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai, with a stop on the way. Walking is light, except for the stairway at Doi Suthep. Ideal for honeymooners, couples of any age and older travelers.

Where you stay

Comfortable 4-star hotels: Le Fenix Sukhumvit in Bangkok, Wiang Inn in Chiang Rai, Banthai Village in Chiang Mai and The Old Phuket Karon Beach Resort, or similar. For a special occasion, we can upgrade you to luxury stays such as The Legend Chiang Rai, the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai and Paresa Phuket.

Best time to go

November to February is the most comfortable time, with dry weather in the north and calm, sunny seas around Phuket. March and April are hot but still good for the beach. From May to October, Phuket has more rain and rougher seas, while the north turns green with short afternoon showers.

Your guide, your language

Your guide and driver are yours alone for the whole trip, so the pace, the stops and the start time each morning follow you. The standard version has an English-speaking guide; guides who speak French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese or Vietnamese can be arranged on request.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Bangkok

A fast-track service whisks you through immigration at Suvarnabhumi Airport, and your guide welcomes you both with fresh flower garlands. Your private car takes you to the hotel in the city. The rest of the day is free, so you can rest, take a swim or enjoy your first Thai dinner nearby. Before saying goodbye, your guide will share a few tips for the days ahead, including what to wear for tomorrow's temple visits.

Overnight: Bangkok

Day 2 A monk's blessing and the Grand Palace

Begin married life the Thai way. At Wat Ratchabophit, a royal temple with a dazzling Thai exterior and a surprising European-style interior, you present a traditional offering known as Sankatarn to the monks. In return, they chant a blessing for a long and happy marriage. The ceremony is arranged just for the two of you. Continue to the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, home of the Emerald Buddha, then enjoy a Thai set lunch at Baan Khanitha.

Overnight: Bangkok · Meals: B, L

Day 3 Fly to Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle

Enjoy a slow morning before your flight north to Chiang Rai. Your local guide meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel. In the afternoon, drive to the Golden Triangle, where the Mekong and Ruak rivers mark the meeting point of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Stop for lunch on the way, then visit the Hall of Opium in Baan Sop Ruak, an absorbing museum that tells the history of the region and the opium trade.

Overnight: Chiang Rai · Meals: B

Day 4 Chiang Rai's Blue Temple and Baan Dam

The morning is yours to relax. After lunch, your guide takes you to Wat Rong Suea Ten, the Blue Temple, where sapphire walls and a white Buddha create a calm, dreamlike space. Continue to Baan Dam, the Black House, a garden of dark teak pavilions created by the late artist Thawan Duchanee. End at Wat Phra Kaew in the town center, where the Emerald Buddha was first found in the fifteenth century. The evening is free for the night bazaar.

Overnight: Chiang Rai · Meals: B

Day 5 The White Temple and the road to Chiang Mai

Today you travel south to Chiang Mai, a scenic drive of about three hours. Your first stop is Wat Rong Khun, the White Temple, which looks unlike any other temple in Thailand. It is built entirely in white, with tiny mirrors set into the plaster that sparkle in the sun. Lunch is at a local restaurant on the way. You arrive in Chiang Mai in the afternoon, with time to settle in before an evening stroll.

Overnight: Chiang Mai · Meals: B, L

Day 6 Cooking with a family in the countryside

Leave the city behind for a village outside Chiang Mai. At a family home, you walk around the farm while your host explains the herbs, vegetables and spices used in Northern Thai cooking. Then it is your turn. Side by side, you each prepare three dishes of your choice and sit down to enjoy them together for lunch on the terrace. In the afternoon, return to your hotel for a swim, a couple's massage or simply a nap.

Overnight: Chiang Mai · Meals: B, L

Day 7 Old Chiang Mai, Doi Suthep and Bo Sang

Drive through the old city, past its brick walls, gates and moat, and stop at Wat Phra Singh, a fine example of Lanna temple art. Then head up the mountain to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, built in 1383, with a golden chedi and wide views over the valley. Higher still, visit the gardens of Bhubing Palace, the royal winter residence, when it is open. Finish in Bo Sang, a village famous for hand-painted paper parasols.

Overnight: Chiang Mai · Meals: B, L

Day 8 Fly to Phuket

The morning is free for a last walk or a coffee in the old city. Your private car then takes you to Chiang Mai airport for your flight south to Phuket, either direct or with a short connection in Bangkok. On arrival, your driver meets you and takes you to your resort on the west coast. The evening is yours to enjoy the sunset over the Andaman Sea and plan a few days of pure rest.

Overnight: Phuket · Meals: B

Day 9 Free day on Phuket

No guide, no schedule. Spend the day on the beach, by the pool or in the spa. If you want to explore, we can arrange a private boat trip to the limestone islands of Phang Nga Bay, a walk through the old town with its colorful shophouses or a sunset dinner by the sea. Let us know your wishes before you travel, or ask the resort desk once you arrive.

Overnight: Phuket · Meals: B

Day 10 Another lazy day by the sea

A second free day to enjoy the island at your own pace. Swim in the clear water in the morning, enjoy a long lunch and watch the light change over the bay in the late afternoon. Many couples keep this day completely open, with perhaps a massage and a beachside dinner to close the trip. It is a gentle way to end a honeymoon before the journey home.

Overnight: Phuket · Meals: B

Day 11 Depart from Phuket

Enjoy a final breakfast by the sea. Your time is free until your private transfer to Phuket International Airport, where you take your flight to Bangkok to connect with your international flight home, or fly out directly if you prefer. We hope you leave with a head full of memories and a blessing that stays with you for many years.
