Seven nights on the Mekong between Saigon and Siem Reap in a 26-stateroom ship styled on British India

In short
The Jahan is Heritage Line's flagship on the Lower Mekong: 26 staterooms and suites, all with private balconies, on a three-deck ship decorated in the style of colonial India. The classic sailing is seven nights between Saigon and Siem Reap, in either direction; three- and four-night sections are also sold. It suits couples and families with older children who want to see two countries without changing hotels.

The Jahan is named after the Mughal emperor who built the Taj Mahal, and the interiors follow the theme: artwork and fittings sourced in India, the East India Club bar modeled on an old British-Indian club, the Viceroy Dining Hall, the Raj of India lobby lounge and an Observatory Lounge at the bow. Every stateroom is 30 square meters with a four-square-meter balcony and a walk-in shower; the two Noble Suites are 51 square meters, one with a private Jacuzzi on its second balcony. The Terrace Deck carries a pool the operator calls the largest on any Mekong river cruiser, next to the three-room Apsara Spa, a gym and a steam bath.
Days follow a steady rhythm: a morning shore excursion by sampan, tuk-tuk or on foot, lunch on board while sailing, a second outing or a talk in the afternoon. Excursions involve some walking and getting in and out of small boats, so moderate mobility is needed. Sister ship Jayavarman, 27 rooms in a 1930s French-colonial style, runs the same routes and remains in the operator's 2026 program.
| Day 1 | Meet at the Heritage Line lounge in central Saigon at 10:00; group transfer to the ship and embarkation in the Mekong Delta. First dinner on board. |
|---|---|
| Days 2–3 | Delta life by sampan and on foot: markets, workshops and river villages. Sail toward the Cambodian border; the crew handles the river crossing formalities. |
| Days 4–5 | Phnom Penh: the Royal Palace and the city on a guided outing, then upriver to silk-weaving and silversmith villages on the Mekong islands. |
| Days 6–8 | Tonle Sap region and floating villages. Disembark and transfer to the operator's lounge in Siem Reap, about 13:30 in low water, 9:30 in high water. Your private Angkor guide takes over. |
We place The Jahan in the middle of a two-country trip: Saigon and the south first, the cruise as the link, then two or three nights at Angkor with a private guide and car. Hanoi, Halong Bay and Hoi An fit before Saigon. Reverse the order to finish on the beach in Vietnam. The three- and four-night sections work when your schedule cannot take a full week on the river.
Itineraries we often build around it:
Yes, provided you can manage stairs between decks and step in and out of small boats on excursions. The ship has no elevator. Every outing is optional, and the pool, spa and lounges make a day on board a real alternative. Tell us about any mobility limits and we will brief the cruise director in advance.
Seven nights is the full Saigon to Siem Reap route and the only option in the April to August off-season. The 3-night Saigon to Phnom Penh and 4-night Phnom Penh to Siem Reap sections cover the same river in two halves; we use them when flights or a beach stay need the extra days.
Families with older children book The Jahan regularly; Heritage Line publishes no minimum age, and third-person terms apply for a child sharing a stateroom. We suggest 10 and up: excursions are cultural, meals are long and there is no children's program on board.
Heritage Line quotes in US dollars per adult on a twin-share basis, by stateroom category and season, with port and admission fees added. Your written quote from Metta shows the final per-person figure for your chosen dates and category.
