The Metta difference

Why Cambodia with Metta Voyage

Cambodia is small enough to travel without rushing and rich enough to fill two weeks. Many itineraries give Angkor a single day; we give it the time it deserves, then take you where few itineraries go: the colonial streets of Battambang, the Mekong at Kratie, the forest temples of Koh Ker and the quiet coast around Kep.

  1. I.Angkor at the right hour

Sunrise at Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm early before the crowds, Banteay Srei in soft afternoon light, and outer temples such as Beng Mealea and Koh Ker once the day-trippers have left.

  2. II.Your own guide and driver

Every tour is private. Licensed local guides in English, and in French, Spanish, German or Italian on request, subject to availability.

  3. III.One team across borders

Our Hanoi team plans the whole journey, including flights and the road or Mekong boat crossings between Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.

  4. IV.Hotels chosen for location

4- and 5-star hotels and boutique stays close to the temples, the river and the old towns, chosen for service as much as for stars.

  5. V.Travel that respects the place

No animal rides or animal shows in our programmes. We favour community visits, local cooks, artisans and family-run restaurants.

  6. VI.Clear prices, fast replies

A day-by-day itinerary within 24 hours, and a written quote before any payment. Payments go only to company accounts.

Good to know

Getting around

Domestic flights link Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville; everything else is by private car, river boat or, in town, tuk-tuk. Siem Reap to Phnom Penh is about five to six hours by road.

Food to try

Fish amok steamed in banana leaf, num banh chok rice noodles for breakfast, beef lok lak with Kampot pepper and lime, and fresh green-pepper crab in Kep.

Temple etiquette

Cover shoulders and knees at temples (it is required for the upper level of Angkor Wat), take off shoes in pagodas, and never touch anyone's head, including children's.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Ask a travel designer — we reply within 24 hours.

How much does a private Cambodia tour cost?

Our Cambodia tours start from US$420 per person for 3 days around Siem Reap and Angkor, US$600 for 5 days including Koh Ker and Beng Mealea, and US$1,190 for 10 days from Phnom Penh to Angkor, as listed on each tour page. Vietnam and Cambodia together start from US$1,454 for 10 days. Prices include hotels, a private guide and driver on touring days and the entrances in the programme; international flights are extra. Your exact price depends on dates, hotel category and group size and is confirmed in a written quote.

How many days do I need in Cambodia?

Three days is the minimum for Angkor. Five days lets you add Koh Ker, Beng Mealea and the Tonle Sap. With 7 to 10 days you can combine Angkor with Phnom Penh and Battambang, or with Kampot, Kep and the coast. Two weeks or more opens up the Mekong at Kratie and the north-eastern highlands of Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri.

When is the best time to visit Cambodia?

November to February is the best time: dry, sunny and comfortably warm, with the Water Festival in November. March to May is very hot, so temple visits are best early and late. From June to October the countryside is green and the temples are quiet; showers are usually short, but mid-September to October can flood remote roads. Khmer New Year falls in mid-April.

Do I need a visa for Cambodia?

Most nationalities need a tourist visa, which can be obtained online as an e-Visa before travel or on arrival at the international airports and main land borders. Your passport should be valid for at least six months. Rules change, so we check them for your passport when we prepare your itinerary; our Cambodia visa guide explains the steps.

What currency is used in Cambodia?

The local currency is the Cambodian riel (KHR), but US dollars are widely accepted and often preferred in tourist areas. Small change is usually given in riel, so it helps to carry both, including small dollar notes in good condition.

Can I combine Cambodia with Vietnam, Laos or Thailand?

Yes, and most of our travellers do. Direct flights link Siem Reap and Phnom Penh with Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Bangkok and Luang Prabang, and you can also travel by Mekong boat between the Vietnamese delta and Phnom Penh. Our combined tours include Vietnam and Cambodia in 10 days, Luang Prabang and Angkor in 9 days, Thailand and Cambodia in 13 days, and Indochina in 20 days.

Will my guide speak my language?

Every tour is private, with your own licensed local guide and driver. English-speaking guides are available everywhere; French, Spanish, German, Italian and other languages can be arranged on request, subject to availability on your dates.

What should I wear at the temples?

Light clothing that covers shoulders and knees. It is required for the upper level of Angkor Wat and respectful everywhere else. Bring a hat, sunscreen and comfortable shoes with good grip, as some temples have steep steps and uneven stones.

How do I book and pay safely?

Send us your dates and wishes; we reply within 24 hours with an itinerary and a written quote. Nothing is paid before you confirm. Payments go only to company bank accounts in the name of METTA VOYAGES COMPANY LIMITED, or by card through the OnePay gateway. Since 2019 we have handled 2,000+ bookings for 10,100+ travellers and are rated 4.9 on Tripadvisor.
