Bali works best when you split it into two or three bases and let a private driver-guide do the rest. Ubud, in the island's green centre, is the place for the Tegallalang rice terraces, the holy springs of Tirta Empul, the royal temple at Taman Ayun and sunrise views of Mount Batur from Kintamani. Early starts matter here: the terraces and temples are at their best, and emptiest, before ten in the morning.

In the north and west, the lakeside temple of Ulun Danu Bratan at Bedugul sits in the cool hills, and Tanah Lot stands on its rock in the sea for one of Bali's best-known sunsets. The Bukit peninsula in the south has the cliff temple of Uluwatu with its evening kecak dance, the grilled-fish warungs of Jimbaran bay and calm water at Tanjung Benoa and Sanur for families.

A day or two on Nusa Penida, a short fast-boat ride away, adds the cliffs of Kelingking and snorkelling with manta rays. Further afield, Komodo and Lombok can be built into a longer Indonesian itinerary, and Bali combines easily with Thailand or Vietnam in a single two-week trip.

Our Bali tours are private: a car and English-speaking driver-guide on touring days, 4 and 5-star hotels and villas, and as many free beach days as you want. Metta Voyage, an Asia DMC based in Hanoi, plans the whole journey. Prices are per person as listed on each tour page and are confirmed in a written quote before any payment.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private Bali tour cost?

Our Bali tours start from US$570 per person for 6 days and from US$1,110 for the 12-day family holiday, as listed on each tour page. This covers hotels, a private car with English-speaking driver-guide on touring days and the entrances in the programme. International flights are extra, and the final price is confirmed in a written quote.

When is the best time to visit Bali?

The dry season from April to October is the most reliable, with May, June and September offering good weather without the July and August crowds. The wet season from November to March is greener, with showers that usually pass in an hour or two and lower hotel rates.

Do I need a visa for Indonesia?

Most nationalities, including the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Australia and Canada, can get a 30-day visa on arrival at Denpasar airport or apply online beforehand for the e-VoA, which saves queuing. We send the current fee and requirements for your passport with your itinerary.

Can I combine Bali with Vietnam or Thailand?

Yes. Our 15-day Vietnam, Thailand and Bali tour runs Hanoi, Halong Bay and Hoi An, then Bangkok, and finishes with a week in Bali. We also offer Thailand and Bali in 14 days. Direct flights link Denpasar with Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok.

Is the tour private, and does the guide speak English?

Yes. You have your own car and English-speaking driver-guide on sightseeing days, with no other travellers, and the itinerary is adjusted to your pace. Availability is confirmed for your dates when we quote.
