Quick answer

Yes, Metta Voyage helps travellers apply for the Vietnam e-visa through the only official portal, evisa.gov.vn. We check whether your passport needs a visa, review your photo and passport scan, file the application (or walk you through filing it yourself), track it and check the approved e-visa for typos. Apply at least one to two weeks before you fly; our service fee is quoted on request and the government fee (US$25 single entry, US$50 multiple entry) is paid separately at the official rate.

How our e-visa service works

  1. 1Send your trip details

Tell us your nationality, arrival date, arrival airport and number of travellers through the form or WhatsApp. We confirm within 24 hours whether you need an e-visa at all.

  2. 2Share your documents

Send a clear scan of your passport data page and a portrait photo. We check both against the portal's requirements before anything is submitted.

  3. 3We file and track

Once you approve the quote, we submit on evisa.gov.vn (or guide you line by line), pay or help you pay the government fee, and follow the application code.

  4. 4Receive and check your e-visa

We send you the approved e-visa PDF, check your name, passport number and dates letter by letter, and remind you to print a paper copy.

Documents we need from you

  • Passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date in Vietnam
  • Clear photo or scan of the passport data page, all four corners visible, no glare
  • Portrait photo, 4×6 format, white background, no glasses, face fully visible
  • Planned arrival date and the airport or border crossing where you will enter
  • Address of your first hotel or accommodation in Vietnam
  • An email address you check regularly while travelling

Processing time and when to apply

The Immigration Department’s official processing time is about three working days. Weekends and Vietnamese public holidays do not count, and around Tet (Lunar New Year) things can take longer. We recommend starting at least one to two weeks before your flight, and earlier if you are travelling in late January or February. We do not sell “one-hour” or “two-hour” urgent visas: the timing is set by the authorities, not by us, and anyone promising otherwise should make you cautious.

The e-visa can be issued for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry. If you plan to pop over to Cambodia or Laos and come back to Vietnam, ask for a multiple-entry e-visa from the start.

Who needs a Vietnam e-visa, and who is exempt

Travellers from the United States, Canada, Australia and India need an e-visa (or another valid visa) for a holiday in Vietnam. There is no visa exemption for these passports, so the e-visa is the simplest route for most trips.

British passport holders can currently enter visa-free for up to 45 days. Ireland, New Zealand and other nationalities have their own rules, so check the official exemption list or ask us. You only need an e-visa if you plan to stay longer than 45 days or hold a different passport. Our UK readers often start with our guide Vietnam tours from the UK.

Not sure? Send us your nationality and travel dates and we will tell you in plain English whether you need to apply. If you are visa-exempt, we will say so and you pay nothing.

Look-alike visa sites: how to recognise the official portal

Search “Vietnam visa” and the first results are often paid adverts for commercial sites with official-sounding names. Some charge several times the government fee for the same form. The only official portal is run by the Immigration Department of Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security:

  • The address is evisa.gov.vn and the domain ends in .gov.vn.
  • The government fee is US$25 for single entry or US$50 for multiple entry. Check the current amount on the portal itself.
  • Sites ending in .com, .org or .net are not the government, even if they show a national flag.

Metta Voyage is a private, licensed travel company, not a government agency. We file on the official portal for you, and the visa decision always rests with Vietnam’s Immigration Department. For background reading, see our nine checks before you pay a tour operator.

Cambodia and Laos e-visas for Indochina tours

If you are combining Vietnam with Angkor or the Mekong in Laos on a Metta itinerary, we can prepare those applications too:

  • Cambodia: the official e-visa portal is evisa.gov.kh. The government fee is around US$30 plus a processing charge, and the e-visa works at international airports and some land borders. More in our Cambodia visa guide.
  • Laos: the official portal is laoevisa.gov.la. The e-visa is accepted at international airports and some listed checkpoints, but many land crossings from Vietnam do not accept it, so a visa on arrival is often the better option there. See our Laos e-visa guide.

Our assistance fee for Cambodia or Laos is quoted on request, and government fees are separate.

Why travellers use Metta Voyage rather than filing alone

The form itself is not complicated. Most refusals and delays come from small errors: a photo with glasses, a cropped passport scan, a name typed in the wrong order, or the wrong arrival airport. A single wrong letter can mean a fresh application and a second government fee. We have handled visas for more than 10,100 guests across 2,000+ bookings since late 2019, and that experience shows in the details.

  • Licensed international tour operator, licence 01-1167/2023/CDLQGVN-GP LHQT, verifiable on the national tourism register.
  • Real offices in Hanoi (132 Quan Thanh) and Ho Chi Minh City, rated 4.9/5 on Tripadvisor.
  • 24/7 WhatsApp support on +84 812 247 572, including on the day you land.
  • One contact for the e-visa, airport fast track, private transfer and your whole private Vietnam tour.

Included

  • Free check of whether your passport needs a Vietnam e-visa
  • Review of your portrait photo and passport scan against portal requirements
  • Filing on evisa.gov.vn on your behalf, or step-by-step guidance if you prefer to file yourself
  • Tracking of your application code until a decision is issued
  • Letter-by-letter check of the approved e-visa for name, passport number and dates
  • Reminder to print a paper copy, plus WhatsApp support on arrival day
  • Applications for the whole group when booked with a tour or fast track

Not included

  • Government e-visa fee (US$25 single entry, US$50 multiple entry), paid at the official rate
  • Refund of the government fee if the authorities refuse an application
  • Any promise of approval: the decision belongs to Vietnam's Immigration Department
  • Urgent same-day processing outside the official timeframe
  • Cambodia or Laos government visa fees
  • Airport fast track and transfers, unless booked as a package

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a visa for Vietnam from the US, Canada, Australia or India?

Yes. Holders of these passports need an e-visa or another valid visa for tourism in Vietnam. The e-visa is applied for online at evisa.gov.vn and allows stays of up to 90 days.

I am British. Do I need an e-visa?

Not for a holiday of up to 45 days: UK passport holders are currently visa-exempt for that period. You need an e-visa only for longer stays or if you travel on another passport. Check the official exemption list before you fly.

Can you make sure my e-visa is approved?

No company can do that honestly. We remove the common errors that cause refusals and delays, but the decision is made by Vietnam’s Immigration Department, and the government fee is not refunded after a refusal.

How much does your e-visa service cost?

Our assistance fee depends on the number of travellers and whether you add fast track or a tour, and we reply with a quote within 24 hours. The government fee of US$25 or US$50 is always shown separately.

Can I travel to Cambodia or Laos and come back to Vietnam?

Yes, but choose a multiple-entry Vietnam e-visa covering both entries. We plan this with you when we prepare your Indochina itinerary.
