In short

Aman Tokyo occupies the top floors of the Otemachi Tower, moments from the Imperial Palace gardens and close to Tokyo Station. Its 84 suites start at 71 square meters. Three nights is usual at the start or end of a Japan trip. It suits couples and families with older children who want space and a quiet base in a dense city.

Why it is worth it

Aman Tokyo is a ryokan idea carried up a tower: ikebana, washi-paper doors and stone, with suites that start at 71 square meters and run to the 157-square-meter Aman Suite, looking over the skyline, the Imperial Palace gardens and, on clear days, Mount Fuji. The Aman Spa spans 2,500 square meters over two floors, with onsen-style baths, eight treatment rooms and a 30-meter heated indoor pool facing the city. Dining covers Arva, Musashi by Aman, La Pâtisserie, The Lounge and The Café by Aman. The tower connects to the five-line Otemachi subway station, with Tokyo Station close by. You pay for space in a city where hotel rooms are small.

For older travelers the location is the point: no stairs to the street, a subway interchange in the building, and the Imperial Palace gardens for level walks. Families fit well in a City Suite of 121 square meters or more. Haneda Airport is a 40-minute drive, Narita about 60 minutes.

How we usually build the stay

Night 1Private car from Haneda, about 40 minutes. Check in, swim in the 30-meter pool at dusk, dinner at Arva.
Day 2Imperial Palace East Gardens on foot, then Asakusa and the Sumida River with your guide. Evening sushi at Musashi by Aman.
Day 3Day trip by private car to Kamakura or Hakone, or a Tokyo day of Meiji Shrine, Omotesando and a tea ceremony.
DepartureBreakfast, then a short transfer to Tokyo Station for the bullet train to Kyoto.

How we fit it into your private trip

We open most Japan trips with three nights here: the hotel is minutes from Tokyo Station, so the bullet train to Kyoto, Kanazawa or Hakone starts without a long transfer. A private guide handles the first two days; the third is free or a day trip. Pair it with Aman Kyoto for a matched pair of stays, or fly on to Hanoi for a Japan and Vietnam combination.

Itineraries we often build around it:

Good to know

  • Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku; the tower is connected to the Otemachi subway station and is close to Tokyo Station.
  • 84 suites and signature suites; Deluxe Suites face west for sunsets, Tokyo Suites face east across the city.
  • Spa facilities open 6:30 am to 10 pm; the gym is open 24 hours.
  • Haneda Airport about 40 minutes by car, Narita about 60 minutes.
  • Cherry blossom in late March to early April and autumn color in November are the busiest weeks; book early.

Frequently asked questions

Is Aman Tokyo suitable for travelers in their 70s?

Yes, and it is one of the easiest luxury hotels in Tokyo for older guests. Lifts take you from the lobby to the suites and the spa, the subway is in the building, and the Imperial Palace gardens offer level walks. We book a private car for longer days so nobody has to manage rush-hour trains.

Can children stay at Aman Tokyo?

Yes. The suites are large by Tokyo standards, and a City Suite at 121 square meters gives a family room to spread out. We find children over 10 enjoy the city most: the pool, Asakusa, a sushi lesson, a day trip to Hakone. Ask us which suite combination suits a family of four or five.

How do we get there?

Haneda Airport is about 40 minutes by car and takes most international flights; Narita is about 60 minutes. We book a private car for arrival. Within Japan, the hotel is a short ride from Tokyo Station, so we use the bullet train to Kyoto and send the luggage ahead by courier.

Is the rate per suite or per person?

Rates are per suite per night, not per person. Your written quote shows the suite category, the number of nights and how the stay fits into the whole trip price. Price is confirmed in your written quote.
