Quick answer

Flights: nonstop flights link Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad with Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City in about 4–5.5 hours, on Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, Air India and IndiGo (checked 4 November 2026).

Visa: Indian passport holders need a visa – apply for the official e-visa at evisa.gov.vn (up to 90 days; US$25 single or US$50 multiple entry). Claims that Indians are visa-free are wrong for ordinary passports.

Price: our 8-day Vietnam Highlights private tour starts from about ₹1,05,200 (US$1,120; converted price, you pay the amount on your invoice) per person, 2 sharing in 4★ hotels.

Local contact: our India representative on +91 97335 29506, or WhatsApp our 24/7 team in Vietnam on +84 812 247 572.

With nonstop flights of four to five hours and only 1.5 hours of time difference, Vietnam has become one of the easiest international holidays from India – for honeymooners, families during the school holidays and Diwali, and groups of friends. This page is written for Indian travellers: flights from your city, the e-visa, vegetarian and Jain food, the best season for your dates, and whom to call in India.

Metta Voyage is a licensed international tour operator (licence 01-1167/2023/CDLQGVN-GP LHQT) and an Asia DMC with its operations team in Hanoi. Every journey is private, with your own guide and driver, hotels chosen with you and one travel designer from first message to flight home.

Getting there

Direct flights from India to Vietnam

Four airlines fly nonstop between India and Vietnam. Routes and frequencies change often – several new ones started in 2026 – so treat the list below as a guide and confirm with the airline when you book. We do not list weekly frequencies because sources disagree.

Bengaluru (BLR)Vietnam Airlines to Hanoi; Vietjet to Ho Chi Minh Cityabout 4.5 h
Hyderabad (HYD)Vietnam Airlines to Hanoi; Vietjet to Ho Chi Minh Cityabout 4 h
Ahmedabad (AMD)Vietnam Airlines to Hanoi (from 3 November 2026); Vietjet to Ho Chi Minh Cityabout 4.5–5.5 h
Kolkata (CCU)IndiGo has flown Kolkata–Hanoi since 2019 – check the current schedule (Kolkata–Ho Chi Minh City was suspended in July 2026)about 3 h
Chennai, Kochi and other citiesConnect via Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkokabout 7–10 h in total

Our tip: fly into Hanoi and home from Ho Chi Minh City (or the reverse) so you never backtrack. For a short 6–8 day trip, pick one region – the north (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh) or the centre (Da Nang, Hoi An) – rather than rushing the whole country.

Vegetarian and Jain food

Pure-veg, Jain (no onion, garlic or root vegetables) and Indian meals are arranged in advance; we brief hotels, cruises and restaurants, and Hanoi, Da Nang and Saigon have Indian restaurants. See Indian restaurants in Hanoi.

Money

Vietnam uses the dong (VND). Rupees are hard to exchange, so carry US dollars or use an international card; cards work in 4–5★ hotels and ATMs are easy to find in cities.

Plugs and power

Sockets take Types A and C at 220 V, 50 Hz. Your two-pin Type C plugs fit; three-pin Type D or M plugs need an adapter.

Phone and data

Our Vietnam eSIM or a local SIM is far cheaper than roaming; your guide and travel designer are on WhatsApp throughout.

Travel insurance

Take travel insurance that covers medical treatment and evacuation abroad, and any adventure activity in your plan.

Tipping

Tipping is appreciated, not compulsory. Our tipping guide gives realistic amounts.

Plug standards: IEC World Plugs.
