Quick answer (prices checked 26 October 2026)
A private Vietnam tour with your own guide and driver, 4★ hotels with breakfast and the sightseeing in the itinerary starts from US$2,014 per person for 14 days and US$2,344 for 12 days on our current tour pages, based on 2 travellers sharing a room. Across our 10–20 day tours the published “from” prices work out at roughly US$140–300 per person per day, and far more for the SJourney luxury train (from US$8,600 for 13 days).
These are starting prices, not quotes: the price changes with hotel level, season and how many of you travel together, and is confirmed in your tailor-made quote.
“How much does a private tour of Vietnam cost?” is the first question almost every traveller asks us, and the answers online range from US$50 to US$500 a day. The gap is real: the price depends on how many of you share the car and guide, which hotels you choose, the season and how many flights the route needs. This guide uses only the “from” prices shown on our own tour pages, so you can see what is included and plan a realistic budget before you ask for a quote.
Private Vietnam tour prices by number of days
The table lists the “from” price of each tour as shown on its tour page on 26 October 2026: per person for the whole tour, based on 2 travellers sharing a room in 4★ hotels. The daily figure is simply the price divided by the number of days, to make tours of different lengths easier to compare.
| Days | Tour | From, per person | ≈ per day |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | Vietnam & Cambodia: Saigon, Mekong Delta, Phnom Penh, Angkor | US$1,454 | US$145 |
| 10 | Vietnam honeymoon: Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Hue, Phu Quoc | US$3,020 | US$302 |
| 12 | Vietnam in depth: Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, Saigon, Mekong | US$2,344 | US$195 |
| 12 | Luxurious Vietnam: Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Halong Bay, Da Nang, Hue, Saigon | US$3,157 | US$263 |
| 13 | Vietnam luxury tour with the SJourney train | US$8,600 | US$662 |
| 14 | Vietnam north to south: Hanoi, Sapa, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, Saigon, Can Tho | US$2,014 | US$144 |
| 14 | Best of Vietnam & Cambodia with Angkor | US$2,341 | US$167 |
| 15 | Authentic Vietnam from the mountains to the sea (Sapa homestays) | US$2,100 | US$140 |
| 20 | Indochina Revealed: Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia | US$3,400 | US$170 |
Adding Cambodia or Laos does not automatically raise the daily cost; the biggest jumps come from a beach resort stay or a luxury train at the heart of the trip. Your own quote is built day by day for your dates, so treat these figures as a starting point.

How hotel level and group size change the price
Hotel level
All the prices above are based on 4★ hotels. We do not publish a fixed price list for 5★ or boutique hotels, because the difference depends on the exact hotels, room types and dates; moving to top 5★ properties or a resort stay is the choice that changes the total most, and we price it hotel by hotel in your quote. A practical way to control the budget is to mix levels: a comfortable, central 4★ in Hanoi and Saigon, where you are out all day, and a special stay where you actually spend time at the hotel, such as a riverside resort in Hoi An.
Number of travellers
Our tour-page prices assume 2 travellers sharing. A private car, driver and guide cost the same whether they look after two people or four, so with 3–4 adults the price per person is usually lower, while solo travellers pay a supplement for the same reason. Always check how many travellers a “from” price is based on before you compare companies.
Children
The children’s policy on our tour pages: from 12 years old, the adult rate; 5–11 years in an extra bed, 85% of the adult rate; 5–11 years sharing a bed, 75%; 2–4 years sharing a bed, 50%; under 2, 10%.

What else makes the price go up or down
Your Halong Bay cruise
An overnight cruise on Halong Bay or the quieter Lan Ha Bay is included in most of our itineraries, and cruise prices vary widely with cabin size, balcony, food and the route the boat takes. It is often the second biggest line in a quote. If the budget is tight, a good mid-range boat on a less crowded route is a better use of money than the largest ship.
Season and holidays
Hotels, cruises and domestic flights cost more over Christmas and New Year and around the Lunar New Year (Tet, usually late January or February). These weeks also sell out first, so book early if your dates are fixed. Outside those peaks, prices change less than many travellers expect.
Flights versus driving
Vietnam is long and thin. Flying Hanoi to Da Nang (about 1 hour 20 minutes) and Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City (about 1 hour 30 minutes) saves full days on the road but adds to the cost. Overnight trains and scenic drives are slower and cheaper; we suggest them only where the journey itself is worth it, for example the train over the Hai Van Pass.

What is included, and what is not
A fair comparison needs the same inclusions. Our private tour prices include:
- Hand-picked 4–5★ hotels with breakfast
- Private car, driver and airport transfers
- Your own English-speaking guide in each region
- Domestic flights, cruises and entrance fees as listed in each itinerary
- Meals listed in the itinerary
- 24/7 local support during the trip
Usually not included are international flights to and from Vietnam, the e-visa fee (US$25 single entry), travel insurance, meals and drinks not listed, personal expenses and tips. Check the “Included” list on each tour page, because some itineraries list domestic flights separately. For tipping, our tipping guide explains the details.
Three example budgets
What the published prices mean for typical trips, before international flights:
| Travellers | Trip | Tour budget |
|---|---|---|
| Couple | 14 days north to south (from US$2,014 pp) | From about US$4,028 for two |
| Couple | 12 days, luxurious Vietnam (from US$3,157 pp) | From about US$6,314 for two |
| Couple | 20 days, Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia (from US$3,400 pp) | From about US$6,800 for two |
Add a cushion of roughly 10–15% for meals outside the itinerary, drinks, tips, massages and shopping. Your final quote shows every hotel and every service, so there are no hidden extras.

Tips from a local operator to get more for your money
- Travel in the shoulder months. March–April and October–November usually give good weather in much of the country with fewer peak surcharges.
- Do fewer places, better. Each extra stop adds transfers and a hotel night lost to packing. Twelve to fourteen days with five main stops feels relaxed; the same days with eight stops feels rushed and costs more.
- Spend on the experiences you will remember. A good Halong Bay cruise, a private cooking class in Hoi An or a boutique stay in the mountains matter more than a famous hotel brand in a city where you only sleep.
- Ask what the price is based on. Number of travellers, hotel names and room types, and whether flights and entrance fees are included.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a private Vietnam tour cost per day?
On our current tour pages, the “from” prices for 10–20 day private tours work out at roughly US$140–300 per person per day, based on 2 travellers sharing in 4★ hotels. Luxury train journeys cost more. Your exact price is confirmed in your tailor-made quote.
Is a private tour much more expensive than a group tour?
For two people a private tour usually costs more per person than a large coach tour, because the car and guide are yours alone. For three or four travellers the difference narrows, and you choose the hotels, the pace and the stops.
Are international flights included in the price?
No. Our prices start on arrival in Vietnam. Domestic flights are included only where the tour page lists them.
How far in advance should I book?
For Christmas–New Year and Tet, as early as possible, because the best hotels and cruises fill first. For other months, two to four months ahead is usually enough.
Can I get an exact price for my dates?
Yes. Send your dates and group size and we will reply within 24 hours with a day-by-day plan and a full price, free and without obligation.
Questions travellers asked us — and our answers
These are real questions from travellers’ emails, messages and enquiry forms, rewritten and anonymised, and answered by the Metta Voyage team: a trip designer and a guide.
Are tips for the guide and driver compulsory, and how much should we give?
Metta Voyage trip designer: Tips are not included in the “from” prices on our tour pages. If a quote does include a daily tipping amount for the guide and driver, it says so and states the amount, so nothing is hidden. Otherwise, tipping is your choice; our tipping guide gives the customary amounts in Vietnam.
Metta Voyage guide: A thank-you is always appreciated, but what matters most to us is that you had a good day. If something did not work, please tell us so we can fix it the next day.
Is travel insurance included in the price?
Metta Voyage trip designer: No. Travel insurance is not included, as listed under what is not included above. We recommend a policy that covers medical care and trip cancellation, bought when you pay your deposit.
Metta Voyage guide: If your trip includes trekking in Sapa, kayaking on Halong Bay or cycling in Hoi An, check that your policy covers those activities.
Are the cable car, train and entrance tickets included, or will we pay extra on the day?
Metta Voyage trip designer: Entrance fees, boat trips and transport listed in the itinerary are included, and your quote lists every service day by day. Optional extras that are not in the itinerary are paid separately, and we tell you about them in advance. Our 14-day itinerary shows how this works: entrance fees and boat trips in the programme are included, and anything extra is named.
Metta Voyage guide: On the day, I handle the tickets for everything that is included, so you do not queue or pay at the gate.
Would it be cheaper with a minivan, or if more of us travel together?
Metta Voyage trip designer: The vehicle is chosen for your group size and luggage. The car, driver and guide cost about the same for two people as for four, so with three or four adults sharing, the price per person is usually lower. That is why we always state how many travellers a price is based on.
Metta Voyage guide: Leave room for luggage and comfort on long drives such as Hanoi to Sapa. A slightly larger vehicle often makes the day much more pleasant.
How much deposit do we pay, and by when do we need to confirm?
Metta Voyage trip designer: To confirm, you pay a 30% deposit, and the balance is due 45 days before arrival. Until you confirm, hotel and cruise availability and prices can change, especially for Christmas–New Year and Tet, so for those weeks we suggest confirming as early as you can.
Metta Voyage guide: Once you confirm, our team sends the final programme with every hotel and pick-up time, and the same team looks after you during the trip.
Are there extra charges over Christmas and New Year?
Metta Voyage trip designer: Hotels, cruises and domestic flights cost more over Christmas–New Year and around Tet, and those weeks sell out first. Your quote is built for your exact dates, so the seasonal price is already in it. For a typical north-to-south route, see our 14-day Vietnam tour from north to south; the price for your dates is confirmed in your tailor-made quote.
Metta Voyage guide: The holiday weeks are busy but festive. We start early at the popular sights to stay ahead of the crowds.
