Private tour with your own English-speaking guide · 22 days / 21 nights · Chiang Mai – Doi Inthanon – Chiang Rai – Golden Triangle – Phuket – Phang Nga Bay – Krabi – Kanchanaburi – Damnoen Saduak – Bangkok
This 22-day Thailand tour is for travelers who want to see the whole country without rushing. It opens in the north: Chiang Mai's oldest temples and Doi Suthep, a day on Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest mountain, and a road trip to the Golden Triangle and the White, Blue and Black temples of Chiang Rai. A private guide and driver look after you on the touring days.
Then you fly south for nine nights by the Andaman Sea. From Phuket you join speedboat trips to the Phi Phi Islands and Phang Nga Bay, and from Krabi you explore the Four Islands and the lagoon of Koh Hong. Free days are built in after each pair of boat trips, so there is always time to rest.
The final part brings you to Kanchanaburi, where the bridge on the River Kwai, the Death Railway and the emerald pools of Erawan Falls tell very different stories. You return to Bangkok via the railway and floating markets, see the Grand Palace and the canals, and have three free days to explore the capital at your own pace.
Moderate. Touring days are well spaced, with five full free days. There are two domestic flights, a scenic road transfer from Phuket to Krabi and several full days on speedboats, which can be bumpy. Walking includes 306 steps at Doi Suthep, short nature trails and the Erawan Falls paths. Suits couples and families with children over 10.
Comfortable 4-star hotels in deluxe rooms: The Empress Hotel Chiang Mai, The Heritage Chiang Rai, The Charm Resort Phuket, Vacation Village Phra Nang Inn in Ao Nang, Felix River Kwai Hotel in Kanchanaburi and Mandarin Hotel Managed by Centre Point in Bangkok, or similar. Other hotel options are available on request.
November to March is the best time for this route: dry, cooler days in the north and calm, clear seas in Phuket and Krabi. April is hot everywhere. From May to October the Andaman coast has more rain and rougher seas, and some boat trips may be changed or cancelled.
Your guide and driver are yours alone for the whole trip, so the pace, the stops and the start time each morning follow you. The standard version has an English-speaking guide; guides who speak French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese or Vietnamese can be arranged on request.
