Yes, Vietnam and Singapore combine very easily in one trip. Direct flights link Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City with Singapore in about 2.5 to 3.5 hours, so you lose only half a day between the two. For a relaxed pace, plan 12 to 14 days: around eight in Vietnam and three or four nights in Singapore.
Below we explain how long to give each country, which direction makes the most sense, which Vietnamese city to fly from, and how the season shapes the route.
How many days do you need?
Singapore is compact. Three nights let you see Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay, walk Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam, spend an evening at the Night Safari and a morning at the Botanic Gardens, then ride the cable car to Sentosa. A fourth night is pleasant if you like to rest in the afternoon heat, or if you want time for shopping and a long lunch.
Vietnam needs more time because the country is long and the highlights are spread out. A classic first visit covers Hanoi, an overnight cruise on Halong Bay and Hoi An, which fits comfortably into eight days. If you also want Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta, add three or four days.
- 10 to 11 days: Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An and three nights in Singapore. Full but not rushed.
- 12 to 14 days: the same route with four nights in Hoi An and four days in Singapore, or with the Mekong Delta added.
- 16 days or more: north, centre and south of Vietnam, then Singapore at a gentle pace.
Which direction: Vietnam first or Singapore first?
Both work, and the choice usually comes down to your international flights and how you like to travel.
Vietnam first, Singapore last is our usual suggestion. You start with the richer, busier part of the trip while you have the most energy, then finish in a city that is easy, green and very comfortable. Changi is also a smooth airport for long-haul flights home, and Jewel Changi, with its Rain Vortex waterfall, is a pleasant last stop before departure.
Singapore first is a good idea if you arrive from Europe, North America or Australia after a long flight. Singapore is a gentle place to recover from jet lag before Vietnam: clean, orderly and with short distances. You then fly on to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City and finish your trip in Vietnam.
Direct flights: Hanoi, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City?
All three Vietnamese cities have direct flights to Singapore. The right one depends on where your Vietnam route ends.
| From | Flight time to Singapore | Fits a route that ends in |
|---|---|---|
| Hanoi | about 3.5 hours | The north: Hanoi, Halong Bay, Ninh Binh |
| Da Nang | about 2.5 hours | Central Vietnam: Hoi An, Hue, Da Nang beaches |
| Ho Chi Minh City | about 2.5 hours | The south: Saigon, the Mekong Delta |
Our 12-day route ends in Hoi An and flies direct from Da Nang, which avoids an extra flight back north. Schedules change by season, so we confirm the exact flight with your quote and book it for you.

When to go
Singapore is hot and humid all year, around 25 to 32°C, with its driest, sunniest weather usually from February to April. It does not really have a bad season; showers are frequent but short.
Vietnam is where the season matters. November to April is pleasant and dry in Hanoi. Central Vietnam, including Hoi An, is usually at its nicest from February to August, while October to December can bring heavy rain there. For a trip in those months, we often suggest more time in Hanoi or in Singapore and less in the centre.
