In short

The Nam Hai is an all-villa Four Seasons resort on a kilometer of beach north of Hoi An, about 30 minutes from Da Nang airport. There are 100 villas, from one-bedroom garden and beachfront villas to five-bedroom pool villas with their own staff. It works for couples and for three-generation families, and it is the easiest luxury base in Vietnam for mixing beach days with Hoi An, My Son and Hue.

Why it is worth it

Architect Reda Amalou designed the resort around a long axis of three pools running from the main pavilions down to the sea, with villas set in coconut groves on either side; the design draws on the royal tombs of Tu Duc in Hue. Sixty one-bedroom villas, eight of them family villas, have sea or garden views and private terraces; forty pool villas of one to five bedrooms add private infinity pools and a personal attendant. The Heart of the Earth Spa has eight treatment villas set over lotus ponds. Dining runs from Lá Sen, Vietnamese by the beach, to Café Nam Hai with its Indian menu, Nayuu and the Sol & Sao lounge.

The resort is flat and easy to walk, with buggies on call, which matters for guests in their seventies. The three pools include an adults-only quiet pool and a family pool next to the Chuon Chuon kids' club, so couples and families with children both get what they came for. Hoi An's old town is a short drive, best in the late afternoon.

How we usually build the stay

Night 1Fly into Da Nang or arrive by private car from Hue over the Hai Van pass. Check in, first swim, dinner at Lá Sen by the beach.
Night 2Morning at the pool or beach; late afternoon in Hoi An's old town with your private guide, lantern-lit dinner, back by car.
Night 3Early private trip to the My Son sanctuary before the heat, lunch back at the resort, spa in the afternoon. Private car to Da Nang airport or on to the next stop the following day.

How we fit it into your private trip

We place The Nam Hai in the middle of a north-to-south trip, after Hanoi and Halong Bay and before Saigon or a southern beach, usually for three or four nights. Hue works as a day trip by private car with a stop at the Hai Van pass or as the stop before. Families often stay longer and use it as the beach break between two cultural halves of the journey.

Itineraries we often build around it:

Good to know

  • Location: Ha My beach, Dien Ban, just north of Hoi An; Da Nang International Airport is about 30 minutes by private car. The old town is a short drive and we schedule it for the late afternoon and evening.
  • 100 villas in total: 60 one-bedroom villas (8 family villas) and 40 pool villas with 1 to 5 bedrooms; pool villas come with a personal attendant.
  • Three outdoor pools: family, lap and an adults-only quiet pool. Chuon Chuon kids' club with wading pool and sandbox.
  • Dining: Café Nam Hai (Indian, breakfast and dinner), Lá Sen (contemporary Vietnamese, beachside), Nayuu restaurant and bar, Sol & Sao lounge. Breakfast is included only when your quote says so.
  • The resort opened as a Four Seasons in December 2016; the Heart of the Earth Spa has eight Lotus Pond Treatment Villas.

Frequently asked questions

Is The Nam Hai good for travelers in their 70s?

It is one of the easiest luxury resorts in Vietnam for older guests: flat ground, buggies on call, villas close to the pools, and a quiet adults-only pool. Hoi An's old town is a short drive and can be done in two hours in the cool of the evening. The beach has open sea and some waves, so swimming is better in the pools on windy days.

Which villa for a family with teenagers?

A two- or three-bedroom pool villa gives everyone a room, a private pool and an attendant who arranges meals in the villa. The eight one-bedroom family villas are the lighter option. The kids' club suits younger siblings; teenagers tend to use the lap pool, the beach and the bikes.

How many nights?

Three nights cover Hoi An, My Son and a real beach day. Four or five nights let you add Hue by private car, a cooking class in Hoi An and time doing nothing. We rarely book fewer than three, because the villa and the beach are the point.

Is the rate per villa or per person?

Resort rates are per villa per night for the occupancy shown, with breakfast included only if stated. Extra adults and children have their own terms by villa type. Your written quote from Metta gives the final rate for your dates and villa category.
