In short

InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort sits on a private cove of the Son Tra Peninsula, about twenty minutes from Da Nang city. Guests stay two to four nights as the central-Vietnam beach stop between Hue and Hoi An. It works for couples and for families with children over ten.

Why it is worth it

Bill Bensley designed the whole resort, and it shows in every detail: lantern-lined corridors, white lattice, monkey motifs, and a private funicular, the Nam Tram, that runs guests up and down the cliff. The property is built vertically from the beach to the hilltop, so views are the point. Rooms start at 70 square meters with ocean views; villas on the rocks and by the beach have private infinity pools; the two- and three-bedroom Sun Peninsula Residences reach 800 to 1,000 square meters. La Maison 1888 holds one Michelin star for French cooking with Vietnamese touches, and Citron serves food from north, central, and south Vietnam.

This is a resort for people who like to be looked after and do not mind that everything is on a slope. Buggies and the funicular do the climbing. Older couples find it very comfortable; families with older children get a private bay, the Planet Trekkers kids' club, and Hoi An by shuttle. It is not a wild-beach resort: the cove is small and the resort is large.

How we usually build the stay

Night 1Private car from Da Nang airport or down from Hue via the Hai Van Pass; check in, ride the Nam Tram to the beach, dinner at Citron.
Night 2Free morning on the private bay; afternoon spa; sunset drinks on the terrace, dinner at La Maison 1888 booked in advance.
Night 3Resort shuttle or our car to Hoi An old town for a half day with your guide, back for a quiet evening.
DepartureBreakfast with the bay view, then on to Da Nang airport or a last stop at the Lady Buddha on the way out.

How we fit it into your private trip

We use InterContinental Danang as the beach pause in the middle of a central-Vietnam itinerary: two or three nights after Hue, with a private day trip to Hoi An and My Son from the resort. Our driver brings you over the Hai Van Pass or from Da Nang airport in about 30 to 40 minutes. Michelin-starred dinner and spa times are reserved before you travel and confirmed in your quote.

Itineraries we often build around it:

Good to know

  • Location: Son Tra Peninsula, on a private cove; the resort says Da Nang city is about 20 minutes away.
  • Airport: round-trip transfers by private vehicle can be arranged; we include them with our own driver.
  • The resort is built on a steep hillside; the Nam Tram funicular and buggies connect the levels.
  • Complimentary resort shuttles run to Hoi An old town; ask the concierge for the schedule.
  • On the road in: Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda and the 67-meter Lady Buddha statue.

Frequently asked questions

Is the hillside a problem for guests with limited mobility?

Less than it looks. The Nam Tram funicular and buggies connect the beach, restaurants, and the upper rooms, so most guests never climb the stairs. We still recommend a lower-level room or a seaside villa for anyone who tires easily, and we note this in the booking request.

Is it good for families with children?

Yes, especially with children over ten. Guests have the Planet Trekkers kids' club, the beach with its games, and pools in the villa categories. Two-bedroom villas and residences suit families; a Resort Classic room is fine for a family with one teenager. Hoi An is an easy half day away.

How far is it from Hoi An and Da Nang airport?

The resort is on the far side of Da Nang from Hoi An, so plan around 40 to 50 minutes by car to the old town and about 30 to 40 minutes to the airport, depending on traffic. We use our own driver so the timing is yours, not the shuttle's.

Do we need to book La Maison 1888 in advance?

Yes. It holds one Michelin star and seats are limited, so we reserve your table when we confirm the stay and note dietary needs then. Citron, the Vietnamese restaurant, is easier to book day by day. Meals included in your stay are listed in your written quote.
