In short

Shinta Mani Wild is a 15-tent camp on a 350-hectare stretch of the Cardamom rainforest in southwest Cambodia, about two hours by road from Phnom Penh. Every tent was designed by Bill Bensley, guests arrive by a 400-meter zipline, and the rate includes meals, drinks, activities, and unlimited spa. Three nights is the minimum. It is for couples and families with teenagers who want nature with comfort.

Why it is worth it

The camp exists to protect the forest. Shinta Mani Wild is custodian of 350 hectares of the Cardamoms, has built an on-site ranger station for Wildlife Alliance, and pays the rangers' expenses and equipment; guests can ride out on a patrol. The 15 tents are strung along the Tmor Rung River and its three Raging Sisters waterfalls, each one different, each by Bill Bensley: some stand over rapids, one on the highest stilts above the canopy, one at the foot of a waterfall. A Bensley Butler looks after each tent. Khmer Tonics spa treatments are unlimited, and the camp bundles everything into the rate except the helicopter.

This is an active, hot-climate jungle camp, not a resort. You arrive by zipline over the trees and land at a bar; the alternative is to ask us in advance. Days are kayaking, waterfall swims, foraging walks, mountain biking, or simply the bathtub on the deck. Couples in their 60s who are steady on their feet love it. Families with children over twelve do well; younger children are a question for the camp.

How we usually build the stay

Night 1Private car from Phnom Penh, about two hours; zipline into camp, cocktail at the Landing Zone Bar, dinner by the river.
Night 2Morning ranger patrol or foraging walk with the butler, waterfall swim, afternoon treatment, sundowners on the rocks.
Night 3Kayak or mountain bike to the Kirirom reservoir, picnic lunch from the chefs, final multi-course dinner.
DepartureBreakfast on the deck, transfer to Sihanoukville for the islands or back to Phnom Penh for the flight.

How we fit it into your private trip

We place Shinta Mani Wild between Phnom Penh and the coast: three nights after the capital, then on to Kampot, Kep, or a Koh Rong island. Our driver hands over to the camp's own transfer, or the camp car meets you directly at Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville airport. Because the rate is all-in, the only extras are the optional helicopter and anything we add before or after; both appear in your written quote.

Itineraries we often build around it:

Good to know

  • Transfers: about 120 minutes by road from Phnom Penh airport, about 90 minutes from Sihanoukville; private car and driver included. Helicopter from either city, 25 to 35 minutes, at extra cost.
  • Minimum stay three nights; the booking form is set for two guests per tent.
  • Rate includes meals, drinks, activities, transfers, and unlimited Khmer Tonics spa treatments; helicopter is the stated exception.
  • Kayaking depends on water level and is suspended when monsoon rains raise the river.
  • Tents are open-sided canvas on stilts above the river; expect jungle sounds, humidity, and steps.

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to take the zipline to arrive?

The zipline is the camp's standard arrival: the car drops you at the base of the tower, you climb it, and fly about 400 meters over the trees to the bar. If you would rather not, tell us when booking and we ask the camp for an alternative arrival for your tent. Many guests in their 60s do it and remember it.

Is it suitable for travelers in their 70s?

For fit travelers, yes. Tents sit on stilts with steps and boardwalks, the terrain is forest, and the climate is hot and humid. Activities are optional and the butler adapts them. If stairs or heat are a concern, a Bensley property in Siem Reap may suit you better; we will say so honestly.

Can children join?

The camp's booking form accepts children, but the website does not publish a minimum age, so we ask the camp directly for your family. In our experience the camp suits children over twelve who swim confidently and enjoy kayaking, biking, and the ranger patrol.

Is the rate per tent or per person?

Camp rates are per tent per night for two guests, with meals, drinks, activities, transfers, and spa included; the helicopter is extra. We quote the full three-night stay plus the days before and after as one figure. Price is confirmed in your written quote.
