With the goal of recovering and promoting the tourism market, Vietjet Thailand decided to open more routes connecting Phu Quoc Pearl Island with Thailand from October 12, 2022, which continues to bring tourists more opportunities to transfer and travel between countries without spending expenses.
Bangkok Route (Suvarnabhumi Airport) – Phu Quoc Airport will have 4 flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flight time is expected to be 1 hour 15 minutes, if you book early, Vietjet will have many incentives for travelers.
In addition to flights between Vietnam and Thailand from Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City/Da Nang to Bangkok (available) and the only direct route to Phuket is from Ho Chi Minh City. Upcoming, Vietjet will continue to re-operate the route from Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Chiang Mai International Airport, serving people’s tourism and pilgrimage at the end of the year.
Currently, both Vietnam and Thailand have restored entry conditions before the epidemic and always warmly welcome visitors from all countries to explore experiences, learn about long-standing cultures as well as enjoy the rich gastronomy of the famous destinations between two Southeast Asian countries. Thailand will allow international visitors from more than 50 countries, including Vietnam, to stay up to a maximum of 30 days as of now, up to 45 days from October this year.
Please note: this is an older news update
This article reported Vietjet’s announcement in September 2022. Schedules, flight days and entry rules have changed several times since then, so treat the details above as background, and always check the current timetable on the airline’s official website before you plan.
Why a direct Phu Quoc – Bangkok flight matters
Phu Quoc is Vietnam’s largest island, in the Gulf of Thailand off the south-west coast, and it has its own international airport. A direct link with Bangkok means travellers no longer have to change planes in Ho Chi Minh City to reach the island from Thailand. Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport is one of the main hubs in the region, so the route also opens easy connections for guests flying in from Europe, India, the Middle East or Australia.
For travellers, it makes a two-country holiday much simpler: a few days of temples, markets and food in Bangkok, then a short flight to the beaches of Phu Quoc to rest at the end of the trip, or the other way round.
Combining Thailand and Vietnam in one trip
A popular way to use the route is to start in northern or central Vietnam, finish with a beach stay on Phu Quoc and fly on to Bangkok for a final city break, or to begin in Thailand and end your holiday on the island. Two weeks is a comfortable length for this kind of journey without rushing. Our Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand vacation and our Phu Quoc tours give ideas you can adapt.

Practical tips before you fly
- Check which documents you need for each country. For Vietnam, see the rules for your nationality on evisa.gov.vn, the only official e-visa site. For Thailand, all foreign arrivals must complete the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours before arrival, and you should check the current visa-free allowance for your passport.
- Low-cost fares often include only cabin baggage, so add checked luggage when you book if you need it.
- The best beach weather on Phu Quoc is usually from November to April; the rest of the year brings more rain and rougher seas on the west coast.
- Arrange your airport transfer in advance, especially if you land late in the evening.
