Short answer

The best time to visit Bali is the dry season, from April to October. April–June and September–October are the sweet spots: sunny, less humid and quieter than the July–August peak. November to March is the rainy season, with short, heavy downpours, green rice terraces and lower prices – still a good time for villas, spas and Ubud.

If you are combining Bali with Vietnam, February to April and September to October work well for both countries. Private Bali tours with Metta Voyage start from about US$140 per person per day (2 sharing, 4★), confirmed in your quote.

Bali weather month by month

Typical Bali weather (it is warm all year: about 26–32 °C on the coast, cooler in the hills around Ubud, Bedugul and Kintamani)
Months Season What to expect Good for
January–February Wet season The wettest months; heavy showers, often in the afternoon or at night; humid; quiet outside Chinese New Year Villas, spas, Ubud, green rice fields, lower prices
March End of the wet season Rain easing; Nyepi, the Day of Silence, closes the island for 24 hours (date set by the Balinese calendar) Culture – the Ogoh-ogoh parades on the eve of Nyepi
April–June Early dry season Sunny, less humid, calm seas on most coasts; one of the best periods Everything: temples, rice terraces, beaches, boat trips
July–August Dry season peak Driest and coolest evenings, but the busiest and most expensive months; book villas early Beaches, surfing on the Bukit peninsula, family holidays
September–October Late dry season Still dry and sunny with fewer visitors after August Couples, honeymoons, walking in the rice terraces
November–December Start of the wet season Showers return; Christmas and New Year are busy and prices rise Ubud and spa stays; book early for the holidays

The best months for each type of trip

  • Honeymoons and couples: May, June and September – dry, romantic sunsets at Uluwatu and Tanah Lot, and easier to book a villa with a private pool.
  • Families: July and August match the school holidays and the driest weather, but reserve hotels and drivers months ahead.
  • Culture lovers: plan around temple festivals such as Galungan and Kuningan (every 210 days on the Balinese calendar) or the Ogoh-ogoh parades before Nyepi.
  • Value: the rainy months outside Christmas and New Year bring the best villa prices, and rain rarely lasts all day.

Where to stay by season

Ubud, in the hills, is pleasant all year and the best base for culture, rice terraces and wellness. In the dry season the south coast – Uluwatu, Jimbaran and Nusa Dua – is at its best for beaches and sunsets. During the wet season the east-coast resorts and Ubud villas are good choices, and boat trips to Nusa Penida or Nusa Lembongan may be cancelled on rough days.

Combining Bali with Vietnam

Vietnam has three climates, so the overlap depends on where you go. From February to April the north and centre of Vietnam are mild and dry and Bali’s rains are easing; from May to August Bali is dry and sunny while central Vietnam is at its beach best and the north is hot. From October to December central Vietnam has its rainy season and Bali’s wet season begins, so we usually suggest northern and southern Vietnam then. Flights from Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi to Denpasar take about four to five hours, direct on some days or via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best month to visit Bali?

May, June and September are often the best balance of dry weather, calm seas and fewer visitors. July and August are also dry but are the busiest months.

Is it worth going to Bali in the rainy season?

Yes, if you plan for showers: rain usually comes in heavy bursts, the rice fields are at their greenest and villas cost less. Avoid relying on boat trips, which can be cancelled in rough weather.

When is Nyepi in Bali?

Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, falls in March on a date set by the Balinese calendar. For 24 hours the airport closes and everyone, including visitors, stays in their hotel.

How many days do I need in Bali?

Six to eight days covers Ubud, the rice terraces, Lake Bratan, Tanah Lot and two or three beach days; four or five days works at the end of a Vietnam trip.

Can I combine Vietnam and Bali in one trip?

Yes. February to April and September to October suit both. Flights from Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi to Bali take about four to five hours.
