Travel advice (checked 29 October 2026): the UK FCDO has no regional warning for Yangon, advises against all but essential travel to Mandalay Region (Bagan, Mandalay) and southern Shan State (Inle Lake), and against all travel to Rakhine (including Ngapali), Mon, Kayin, Chin, Kachin, Kayah, Sagaing, Magway, northern Shan and parts of Bago and Mandalay regions. The US and Australia advise against all travel to Myanmar. We do not plan routes into areas where the FCDO advises against all travel, adjust each route to current advice and confirm it before booking. Travel insurance that covers your trip is required.
Why Myanmar with Metta Voyage
Myanmar rewards travellers who go slowly: pagodas still busy with pilgrims, monasteries of carved teak, villages where daily life has changed little. We plan it with the same care as our other private journeys, and we tell you plainly what current travel advice says before you decide.
- I.Honest advice first
We explain the current official advice for each region and only plan routes in areas currently open to visitors. Each itinerary is confirmed before booking.
- II.Your own guide in each region
Private licensed local guides in Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake, with English as standard and other languages on request.
- III.One team across borders
Our Hanoi team plans the whole journey, including flights from Bangkok, Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City and combinations with Thailand, Vietnam or Cambodia.
- IV.Hotels chosen for location
Upper-range hotels in each stop, chosen for location, service and current operating status.
- V.Travel that respects the place
No animal rides or animal shows in our programmes. We favour family workshops, local guides and community visits.
- VI.Clear prices, fast replies
A day-by-day itinerary within 24 hours and a written quote before any payment. Payments go only to company accounts.

Good to know
Getting around
Domestic flights link Yangon with Bagan (Nyaung-U), Mandalay and Heho for Inle Lake; some routes fly only on certain days. Bagan to Mandalay is about four hours by road, Bagan to Inle Lake five to six.
Food to try
Mohinga fish noodle soup for breakfast, tea-leaf salad, Shan noodles around Inle Lake and the tea shops of Yangon.
Pagoda etiquette
Shoes and socks off in every pagoda and monastery, shoulders and knees covered, and walk clockwise around stupas.

Is it safe to travel to Myanmar now?
Official advice differs by country and region, so please read your own government's advice first. The UK FCDO has no regional warning for Yangon, advises against all but essential travel to Mandalay Region (including Bagan and Mandalay) and southern Shan State (including Inle Lake), and against all travel to several other states and regions; the US and Australia advise against all travel to Myanmar. We do not plan routes into areas where the FCDO advises against all travel, adjust each route to current advice and confirm it before booking. Travel insurance that covers your trip is required.
Do I need a visa for Myanmar?
Yes. Most nationalities apply online for a tourist e-visa on the official portal evisa.moip.gov.mm before travel; allow several working days. Your passport should be valid for at least six months. We check the current rules for your passport when we prepare your itinerary.
When is the best time to visit Myanmar?
November to February is the best time: dry, sunny and comfortably warm, with cold nights at Inle Lake. March to May is very hot, especially in Bagan and Mandalay. June to October is the monsoon; Bagan and Mandalay stay drier than Yangon.
What currency is used in Myanmar?
The Myanmar kyat (MMK). Bring clean, unmarked US dollar notes to exchange; card acceptance is limited outside upper-range hotels, so plan to pay most local expenses in cash.
How much does a private Myanmar tour cost?
Our Myanmar tours start from US$410 per person for 4 days in Yangon and Bago, US$920 for 7 days with Bagan and Mandalay, and US$1,280 for 10 days on the classic route, based on four travellers sharing. Domestic flights are quoted separately; your exact price is confirmed in a written quote.
Can I combine Myanmar with Thailand or Vietnam?
Yes. Yangon is about 1 hour 20 minutes by air from Bangkok, and there are connections from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Our Thailand and Myanmar tour combines Bangkok with Yangon and Bagan in 9 days.
Were the temples damaged in the 2025 earthquake?
The March 2025 earthquake damaged monuments in Mandalay, Amarapura, Inwa, Sagaing and parts of Bagan. Most visits continue, but access to individual monuments can change, so we check it for your dates.
How do I book and pay safely?
Send us your dates and wishes; we reply within 24 hours with an itinerary and a written quote. Nothing is paid before you confirm. Payments go only to company bank accounts in the name of METTA VOYAGES COMPANY LIMITED, or by card through the OnePay gateway.
