In short

Who is Metta Voyage and what do we organise?

Metta Voyage is an Asia destination management company (DMC) based in Hanoi, licensed in Vietnam for international travel, that designs and runs private, tailor-made tours in Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Bali. Prices start at US$910 per person for 9 days in Thailand, US$2,000 for 8 days in Korea and US$2,500 for 10 days in Japan, based on 2 travellers sharing in 4★ hotels and excluding international flights.

Outside Vietnam your trip is operated on the ground by local partner teams we have selected (private vehicles, guides, hotel and train bookings), while our team in Hanoi plans every day, holds the contract and remains your one point of contact before and during the trip, 24 hours a day. An English-speaking private guide accompanies you on sightseeing days (subject to availability outside Vietnam, confirmed in your quote).

Since late 2019 we have handled more than 2,000 bookings for over 10,100 travellers, with a Tripadvisor rating of 4.9/5. This page explains how we work, what each country costs and how to combine two or three of them in one journey.

An honest operating model: local partner teams, coordinated from Hanoi

We do not pretend to have our own offices in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing or Bangkok. What we have is better suited to a long, multi-country trip: a planning team in Hanoi that knows the whole region, and in each country a small number of partner teams we have selected and worked with over several seasons. They provide the private vehicle and driver, the local guide, the hotel reservations and the train or ferry tickets, exactly as written in your programme.

Our Hanoi team does the rest. We design the itinerary with you, check hotel availability, book the internal flights and trains between countries, write a single contract and a single quote in English, and brief the partner teams day by day. While you travel, one consultant follows your trip from start to finish and answers on WhatsApp or by phone at any hour. If a ferry is cancelled because of rough seas or a train is missed, we reorganise the day with the local team and tell you what changes, usually before you have had time to worry.

In Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos we operate with our own guides and long-standing partners; in Japan, Korea, China, Thailand and Singapore the partner model applies. We say this plainly because it is the honest description, and because most travellers tell us the result is the same: a well-run trip with one person to call.

Two or three countries in one trip, with a single contract and a single quote

Most of our guests are couples and families travelling for two to three weeks who want to see more than one country without juggling three agencies, three deposits and three sets of terms. We plan the whole journey as one trip. Popular combinations include:

In each case you receive one written quote covering hotels, guides, transfers, internal flights and trains, and the border crossings or flights between countries. You pay one 30% deposit and one balance 45 days before departure. If you prefer to book your own international flights, we build the programme around your arrival and departure times.

English-speaking private guides in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Bangkok and Singapore

Every sightseeing day in your programme includes a private English-speaking guide, not a shared group. In Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand these guides are booked as a matter of course. In Japan, South Korea, China and Singapore good English-speaking guides are in strong demand during cherry-blossom season, autumn colours and national holidays, so we confirm the guide for each city at the quote stage and flag any date where availability is tight. We never leave this to chance on the day.

The style of guiding differs by country, and your quote spells this out. In Japan your guide travels with you on the bullet train and the subway, because that is faster and more pleasant than sitting in Tokyo traffic; airport transfers are by private car. In Korea, China and Thailand you have a private air-conditioned vehicle with driver plus the guide, with some city walking where it makes sense, such as Seoul’s palace district or Bangkok’s riverside temples. In Singapore a guide for two or three half-days is usually enough, with the rest of the time at your own pace.

Guides in our programmes are also the people who handle the small things: restaurant reservations, luggage forwarding between Japanese cities, a quieter entrance to a busy temple, a pharmacy when you need one.

Starting prices by country, per person, 4★ hotels

All prices below are “from” prices per person, based on 2 travellers sharing a twin or double room in 4★ hotels, excluding international flights, and confirmed in your tailor-made quote. Two factors drive the differences: hotel and labour costs in each country, and how much ground you cover.

Upgrading to 5★ hotels, travelling in peak weeks or booking single rooms raises these figures; travelling as a family of four or in the shoulder season lowers the per-person cost.

How booking works: quote in 24 hours, 30% deposit, balance 45 days before departure

The process is deliberately simple, and nothing is paid until you are happy with the plan.

  • Day 1: you tell us your dates, the number of travellers, the countries you have in mind and your hotel style. A consultant in Hanoi replies within 24 hours with a day-by-day programme and a written quote in English.
  • Days 2 to 10: we refine the programme together, by email, WhatsApp or video call. Most guests go through two or three versions; there is no charge for this.
  • Confirmation: once you approve the final version you receive one contract. A 30% deposit secures hotels, guides and internal flights. We then send confirmations for each hotel and train.
  • 45 days before departure: the balance is due. Two weeks before you travel you receive the final documents: vouchers, guide and driver names, local emergency numbers and a WhatsApp group with your consultant.
  • During the trip: your consultant and the local partner team are reachable 24/7.

Payment can be made by bank transfer or card; we state any card fee in the quote. Our general terms, including change and cancellation conditions, are sent with the first quote so that you can read them before committing to anything.

Why book East and Southeast Asia with a DMC based in Hanoi

The honest advantages first. Hanoi sits in the middle of the region we sell, in a time zone close to all of it, with a team that has planned trips across these countries since 2019 and speaks to its partner teams every day. Our cost base allows us to include private guides and private vehicles at prices that a Tokyo or Seoul agency would usually reserve for group travel. And because we are not tied to one country, we have no reason to push you to spend all of your time in any single one: we suggest the balance that suits your dates and your interests.

Now the limits, equally honest. We are strongest when your trip is private, lasts a week or more, and ideally combines two or three countries; a single weekend in Singapore is better booked directly. We rely on partner teams outside Vietnam, so the exact guide is confirmed at quote stage rather than promised in advance. And although our team is used to working in English every day, we are not native speakers; what we promise is clear, prompt communication and written confirmation of everything that matters.

If that sounds like the right fit, the links below lead to our country pages for Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand and Singapore, each with prices, sample itineraries and a form to start your own.

Asia tour operator: your questions

Is Metta Voyage a Vietnamese travel agency or an Asia tour operator?

Both, in a sense. We are an Asia destination management company based in Hanoi, licensed for international travel in Vietnam (licence 01-1167/2023/CDLQGVN-GP LHQT). Vietnam is where we started in 2019 and where we have our own guides; Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos and Bali are operated through local partner teams that we select and coordinate. More than 2,000 bookings and 10,100 travellers later, roughly a third of our guests now combine two or more countries.

Can one company organise Japan, Korea and Vietnam in a single trip?

Yes, that is exactly what we do. A programme such as Japan and South Korea in 13 Days: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Seoul and Busan (13 days, from US$3,250) or Japan and Vietnam: Tokyo, Kyoto, Hanoi, Halong Bay and Hoi An in 13 Days (13 days, from US$2,480) comes with one contract, one quote and one consultant. We book the flights between countries, brief a guide team in each one and remain your single point of contact for the whole journey.

Will we have an English-speaking guide in Tokyo, Seoul or Beijing?

Yes. Every sightseeing day includes a private English-speaking guide. In Japan, Korea, China and Singapore we confirm the guide at the quote stage, because good guides are booked out early for cherry-blossom and autumn dates; in Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia an English-speaking guide is always available. Your quote names the cities and days the guide covers.

How much does a private tour of Asia cost per person?

As a guide: Thailand from US$910 for 9 days, South Korea from US$2,000 for 8 days, China from US$2,000 for 8 days, Japan from US$2,500 for 10 days, and two-country trips such as Japan and Korea from US$3,250 for 13 days. All prices are per person, 2 travellers sharing in 4★ hotels, excluding international flights, and confirmed in writing before you pay.

Why book with a company in Hanoi rather than an agency in Japan or Thailand?

Three practical reasons: one contract and one contact for a multi-country trip, private guides and vehicles at prices usually reserved for groups, and a planning team that knows the whole region rather than one country. The honest limit is that outside Vietnam we rely on partner teams, so we confirm guides at quote stage rather than promising names in advance, and we are at our strongest on private trips of a week or more.

How far in advance should we book, and what do we pay up front?

For spring and autumn in Japan and Korea, or Christmas and New Year anywhere, 6 to 9 months ahead gives the widest choice of hotels and guides; 3 to 4 months is usually fine for other dates. You receive a programme and quote within 24 hours of your request, pay nothing until you approve it, then a 30% deposit on confirmation and the balance 45 days before departure.
